Supporting Your Child Through Exam Period
Exams are a challenging time for anyone, no matter how confident your child feels about their academic performance. There’s a lot of a pressure to perform well and get the grades, so be sure to keep an eye on your youngster during exam period and watch for signs of struggle so that you can help. Here are some tips for supporting your child through exam period from a private school in Enfield.
Encourage a Structured Routine
Make sure your child is following a structured, healthy routine during exam period so that they’re getting enough rest in between revision sessions. Structure will help them feel more in control, which should prevent any unnecessary disorganisation and stress. It might help them if you show them how to create a revision timetable so that they know what they should be working on and when, factoring in additional time for subjects that they might find more challenging.
Maintain Open Communication
Your child may need to talk to you about how they are feeling so make sure they know you are available to listen whenever they need you. Try and avoid nagging them about their schoolwork or pressuring them to get certain grades, as this will only heighten their stress levels. Instead, let them know that you are proud of them no matter what.
Promote Healthy Lifestyle Choices
Your child may want to stay up all hours cramming in their revision, but this will not help them perform well in their exams as they will be groggy and unable to concentrate. They need to get plenty of sleep, and eat regular, healthy meals so that their immune system isn’t compromised. They might be inclined to snack and drink energy drinks, but that will only give them a temporary energy boost and cause a subsequent crash. Instead, they should stay hydrated with water and snack on nutritious foods, like carrot sticks and hummus or fruit and nuts.
