Delicious twists on the classic hot dog
I’m sure most of us will have fond memories of hot dogs. They remind me of easy family meals, bonfire nights, festivals (before the food truck scene!). I’m personally a fan of a classic ketchup and mustard combo, but it is always good to try something new.
Ye Olde Oak hot dogs have had a bit of a makeover. Not only have they launched new flavours, you can find lots of great recipes on their site. I tried one out and it was truly yum! Heres how you cook the ‘The American’.
Ingredients:
- 2 American Style Jumbo hot dogs
- 2 hot dog buns
- 2 cheese squares
- 100g onions, finely sliced
- 75g gherkins, sliced
- Mustard
- Pepper for seasoning
Just to add I used the standard Ye Olde Oak hot dogs and they worked perfectly.
Method:
Empty the hot dogs including the brine into a pan and heat gently for 5 minutes.
Heat a splash of oil in a frying pan on a high heat and add the onions. Fry for 3-4 minutes until lightly browned.
Brush the hot dog buns with butter and lightly toast in the oven.
Split the buns down the middle, put the cheese slices in and then the hot dogs on top.
Top with the onions and gherkins. Dress with the mustard and season with pepper to taste.
Delicious! There are loads more great ideas over on their website. Try a new recipe with an old favourite 😊
