Review of Redefine Meat
Redefine Meat has been used in catering establishments since it was launched in 2021. It’s now available through national retailer Ocado, which is exciting news for vegans and those who favour a plant-based diet. I’ve been trying out the range; so here’s my review of Redefine Meat.
Redefine Meat is entirely plant-based, yet it offers an authentic meaty taste. The range is impressive, as you can choose from a variety of different styles and flavours. It’s ideal for creating those much-loved recipes, while being kind to the environment and animals. From an ethical perspective, this gives it a big tick in my book.
The new star of the show is the Redefine Flank Steak, made from premium plant-based ingredients and natural flavours. You also benefit from an impressive 25 grams of protein per steak with a Nutri-Score rating of ‘A’. The production of the Redefine Flank Steak generates 90% less greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional meat production.
But what about the taste?
I cooked the Redefine Flank Steak in a frying pan. It was easy to cook but I would be more careful next time as I did overcook the outside slightly. This didn’t distract from the taste however. I could certainly appreciate the texture being very close to meat. For me, the flavour of steak wasn’t replicated, but it was pleasant and versatile.
To serve, I used the steak in a baguette with caramelised onions and wholegrain mustard and it was a definite hit. I can see how this could become a replacement for animal products; something I am increasingly trying to do.

I am enjoying other options from the range too, such as the burgers and koftas. The pulled pork and pulled beef are particularly appealing to me, as I love this type of cooking. I use the pulled pork in a quesadilla and it is very tasty.
It’s also a benefit that the products are sold frozen. This means I can pop them into my freezer and have them in stock for my meal planning. It’s also a great way to reduce the chance of the food going to waste.
Having tried Redefined Meat, I can certainly see how it can form a nutritious and tasty part of meals. For those who are purely plant-based, or like me, want to be more balanced, it’s an exciting development.
You can buy all of the range on Ocado by searching for Redefine Meat.
