Review of Baabzi, Kings Heath, Birmingham
When a new takeaway from an award-winning food entrepreneur opens just a few miles from you, it’s got to be worth an order. Baabzi is a new Indian takeaway that is open in King’s Heath, Birmingham. I was very excited to give it a try and share my review of the new Baabzi, Kings Heath.
Owner Baabzi Miah has been running an award winning takeaway in Warwick for the past 8 years. The new Birmingham location brings Baabzi back to the city where he started his hospitality venture.
Impressive menu
The menu offers an authentic reflection of Bengali Cuisine with influences mainly through India, Pakistan and South Asia. It is really impressive, with lots of choice to cater for different tastes and preferences. There’s a lot of vegetarian options too which is nice to see. I chose a delicious sounding sweet chicken tikka roll to start. I followed with a lamb premium saagwala, with peshwari naan and mushroom rice. As these are my go-to accompaniments, I had to give them a try.
Fantastic quality
The chicken tikka roll was immense. It was a soft, warm paratha absolutely crammed of tender and beautifully spiced chicken tikka. The meat is coated in a sweet and sticky tandoori sauce. It is rich without being too heavy. The lamb premium saagwala was equally impressive. The sauce was spot on, thick with an ideal balance of spinach that didn’t overpower. The lamb itself was flavourful and tender.

My peshwari naan was light and fluffy, with enough sweetness from the coconuts and raisins but not tasting sugary. And the mushroom rice was jam packed with mushrooms, which sounds obvious but yet has been lacking in versions I’ve tried elsewhere.
My husband ordered the ultimate mix kebab platter and the Baabzi special balti. This is a mix of chicken, lamb and king prawns in a chef’s sauce. Like me, he is very impressed with the quality of the ingredients and the unique twist on flavours.
I can also highly recommend the papadum platter. The papadums are light and crisp, served alongside mint sauce, onion salad, mango chutney and mix pickle. The pickle is heavenly, very tangy and piquant.
Given the tenderness and taste of the meat, I’m already planning to try Baabzi’s tandoori range. This is because I love tandoori food and Baabzi had a great choice including paneer which is right up my street. So I’m definitely looking forward to my next order!
