Celebrating Roald Dahl Day with Yoto

Roald Dahl is a much-loved author by children and adults. His stories seem almost timeless, our children are reading the same ones that we did all those years ago. My daughter’s favourite is Matilda, which I also loved growing up – and still do. And there’s never a better time to engage with the author’s stories, as the nation is celebrating Roald Dahl Day on September 13th.

What is lovely for our children is there are so many ways to enjoy Roald Dahl’s tales. From classic books to modern films, and also a fantastic range of audio books, access has never been easier.

One of my favourite ways for my daughter to explore stories in the Yoto Mini player. I love that this audio player is screen-free, and a great way to have a break away from the tablet.

What is the Yoto Mini?

The Yoto Mini smart speaker is designed for children. It’s a fun, colourful and portable device that plays a a variety of audio, including music, stories, and educational content. To listen to the device, you use physical cards that are inserted into a slot at the top of the player. You can choose from stories, music, activities, and more.

I love that the player is really simple to use, giving my daughter autonomy over how to interact with it. The buttons are easy to operate and their functions are really clear.

The Yoto Mini is a great piece of tech without having the draw and distraction of a screen. It also offers additional benefits, such as an ok-to-wake clock and white noise and sleep sounds. We haven’t personally used those, but they get the thumbs up from other parents.

The Yoto Mini also has built-in WiFi connectivity. This allows the player to access additional content from the Yoto app.

Yoto Roald Dahl collection

If, like us, you’re a Roald Dahl fan and will be celebrating Roald Dahl day, then you’re in luck. Yoto offer a brilliant selection of Roald Dahl stories, featuring all of the classics. You can choose from individual cards, or two different collections. We’ve been enjoying the Phizz-Whizzing Collection, which includes six top picks:

  1. The BFG
  2. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
  3. George’s Marvellous Medicine
  4. James and the Giant Peach
  5. Matilda
  6. The Twits

The collection costs £39.99, which I think is a great price for six cards, and hours of listening.

There are plenty of options for younger listeners too, such as the Giraffe and the Pelly and Me, and The Enormous Crocodile.

Where to buy

You can buy a Yoto Mini from a variety of retailers, and direct from Yoto for £59.99. You can also explore their extensive range of cards starting from a few pounds. There’s also the option to buy digital stories, which you can play through the Yoto App or download onto a blank card.

We love our Yoto Mini player, and I’m sure you and your family will too.
