What You Should Know About High Heels

It’s pretty much a known fact to all women that walking in heels can be both tiring and painful.  Have you ever wondered why that is?  In this article, we will be taking a look at some things you might not know, but should know about high heels.

Why Do High Heels Hurt?

Something high heel lovers may be interested in knowing is why high heels hurt so much in the first place.  There may actually be a few different reasons.

  • The Placement of the Heel: If the heel is placed further down, you may experience pain in the ball of your foot.
  • The Height of the Heel: This one is pretty much a no brainer and is well known.  To further explain, your usual walking pattern is heel-toe-heel-toe, but wearing high women’s heels will throw off that pattern, therefore, causing you discomfort.
  • The Placement of the Toe: Have you ever had someone warn you not to wear pointed toe shoes?  Well, there was actually a reason for that.  If you experience pain on the side of your foot, baby toe, or big toe, the height of the toe section probably has something to do with that.  If the toe section of your high heels is cutting into you around that area, that’s where the pain is stemming from.

You Should Actually Limit Your Time Wearing High Heels

You may not be happy to hear this, but, cutting your time with your high heels will probably save your feet.  You can try little things like waiting to put them on right before a special event or bring a comfortable pair of shoes to slip on right after the event or during a down time.

You Should Know About Pitch

Believe it or not, something called “pitch” is considered to be the number one thing people should know about high heels, according to some experts.  But, what is pitch?

Pitch is referring to the difference between the height of the heel in relation to the sole. The pitch may be the reason why you are experiencing discomfort.  One way to fix the pitch problem is to get a heel with a platform. A platform heel with lessen the pitch and soften the angle when your foot hits the ground.

It is true that high heels are often considered very bad for you.  However, that doesn’t mean that you have to give them up entirely.  Allow yourself some breathing room from them now and again, and you’ll be fine.
