Looking after your skin as a busy mum

Life is inherently busy for a lot of us. Between working, commuting, family commitments, housework, daily chores, and everything in between, it’s hard to find time for ourselves. I have certainly found that since having my daughter, time just seems to escape me! But one thing that I still try to make sure I do is look after my skin, even if it’s just a few minutes a day.

I never really get a chance to head off for a salon facial anymore, so one thing I will be investing in soon is a facial steamer, like the one which is now available from Panasonic. The skin care UK Panasonic range includes a steamer which offers gentle, deep cleansing of your pores and will leave you with glowing, radiant skin. How lovely!

Here are some of the other simple ways I take care of my skin:

Cleanse every morning and night and remove my make-up – At the end of last year I got into really bad habits with my daily skincare. I had loads of breakouts (a good look for a 35 year old!) and I was getting really fed up. So I asked for some Clinique products for Christmas and they have really helped my skin to clear up. I use the three-step approach (wash, cleanse and moisturise) and I also use micellar water to remove my make-up.

Drink lots of water – I’m not always brilliant at this but I really do try. I am a bit of a coffee-addict, especially as I seem to be tired a lot of the time! But I try to alternate every coffee with a big drink of water, and don’t have any coffee after lunch. Using a reusable plastic bottle helps me to keep up with my water regime as I can carry it with me during the day and make sure I’m regularly swigging.

Use BB cream – I made the switch from foundation to BB cream a few years ago and I definitely prefer it. Not only does it give good coverage but it helps to keep your skin moisturised and contains SPF, which is important to help protect your skin even when the sun isn’t shining brightly.

Banishing dry and chapped lips – My skin can get very dry sometimes and it always seem to affect my lips. I’ve tried loads of different products to counter this, and the best has to be something that my bestie bought me for Christmas, Miracle Balm from Dr. Lipp. It’s medical grade lanolin and the stuff is fantastic. It’s easy to apply and rapidly improves the conditions of my lips. I try to apply it before bed each evening as it seems to stop my lips drying out overnight.

Hopefully I’ve shared a useful tip or two in this post, especially for those of us who always push skincare down our list of priorities. A few minutes a day can make a big difference to your skin, and in turn, how you feel.
