How To Raise a Team Player

Is your child a team player? Someone who helps out in school and includes everyone when they can? Raising a child who believes the world is better when everyone works well together leads to someone who is kinder, respectful, resilient, responsible and more compassionate to others.

Teaching your child how to become a great team player doesn’t have to be done with force. Here are some simple activities you can introduce to your child to raise a team player.

Start chores in the house

One of the best ways to keep on track with chores is through a chore chart. Sit the family down and allow everyone to contribute ideas on what can be done and who would like to complete it. Giving your child the choice on what they complete is motivating as it gives them a sense of independence and responsibility.

To make housework seem more interesting and fun, change up the chart regularly. Complete some chores together so it doesn’t get isolating.

Play games where teamwork is the main priority

Set a timer and get your children to create a play using minimal equipment and only their imagination. Instantly each child will point out the positive attributes that can be contributed to making their play great. Not only will this encourage teamwork, it is also a way of showing support and acknowledging the talents each individual possesses.

Allow your children to take on their own role in the kitchen

Cooking is difficult and is the one place where frustration may get the best of individuals. Give them a simple recipe to make and see how they get on.

At first, it might be a struggle given that everyone will want to contribute, but eventually you’ll notice that working together instead of alone will bring about the best result.

Remind your child daily that it’s about being part of a group rather than being the centre of attention alone. Teamwork will teach your child vital skills that they’ll need for life so start today!
