Reduce Waste, Not Wonder: The Sustainable Magic of Micro Scooters

Like so many tots to tweens, Micro Scooters is the must have brand of scooter for my daughter. From a parent perspective, they’ve become a go-to brand for high-quality scooters that are stylish, reliable, and built to last.

Another reason why I’ve always chosen this brand is their dedication to sustainability. I’ve taken a deep dive into their environmental practices and impact – from the materials they use to their manufacturing processes and commitment to longevity. Here’s my roundup of the sustainable magic of Micro Scooters.

The Sustainable Magic of Micro Scooters

Use of recycled materials

One of Micro’s standout initiatives is their process of turning discarded maritime plastic into greener scooter decks. These use ‘green plastic’ made from discarded fishing gear (nets, ropes, trawls) and maritime industry waste that would otherwise contribute to plastic pollution.

This helps address marine waste and gives a second life to plastic that might otherwise end up in oceans or landfills. When compared to using new plastic, this material offers the potential to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 82%.

Delivering longevity, repairability and spare parts

Micro Scooters are high-quality, rugged and durable, which means they last for years (this is tried and tested in our house). Adding to this, many of their parts are screwed rather than welded, allowing easier repair. They offer spare parts and a repair service globally, allowing the products to be used longer rather than discarded.

The designs of the scooters are also purposefully created to grow with the user – for example, the handlebars that adjust with the child.

Carbon neutrality and commitment to offsetting

Micro Scooters UK is the UK’s first carbon‑neutral scooter retailer. Every product (scooters, bikes, accessories) is designated as carbon neutral, after measuring and offsetting emissions. They have also certified with Carbon Neutral Britain.

Circular commitments by encouraging reuse and reducing single‑use

Something Micro Scooters runs, that I absolutely love, is their ScooterAid programme. When you’ve outgrown your Micro Scooter, you can simply send it back to the company. They revamp and re-home your used Micro Scooter with children in need across the UK. Every pre-loved scooter you donate to us is another child we can help.

Not only does this provide Scooters to worthy causes, it helps ensure scooters get passed on rather than going to landfill.

Scooting is better for the environment and our health

Micro Scooters have massively contributed to making scooting accessible and appealing. Anyone doing the school run will no doubt see a huge number of children – of all ages – scooting to school. This hugely reduces emissions from unnecessary car journeys, and starts the day in a healthy way with a dose of exercise.

Air pollution is a huge problem in the UK, and globally. By adopting changes to our routine, such as scooting for journeys that are too long for walking, but really don’t justify a car, we can help to address this.

Overall thoughts

It’s easy to see why there’s been a Micro Scooter revolution. From tots through to adults, these scooters are built to last; are making a positive impact on the environment; and taking affirmative steps to keep addressing waste and harmful carbon emissions. We can’t help but feel a little bit pleased with ourselves when we head out on our Micro Scooters.
