Me Time

What are some common resolutions for 2024 that you can try?

We might be midway through January, but there’s no time limit on setting a resolution for the months ahead. In fact, as we’re still in the early days of the new year, this is the perfect time to try to establish the goals that we want to achieve and work out the steps to take to get there.

But what resolutions are you considering for 2024? If you want to set some personal targets but don’t know where to start, here are some popular resolutions many people make that could work for you.

Start as you mean to go on

Before you work out what resolutions you want to make, it’s worth thinking about the things that affect you personally. Are you meaning to change your lifestyle this year? Is there something you want to give up? Work this out ahead of making any major decisions about what your goal will be.

While it’s common for new year’s resolutions to fall by the wayside after a few weeks, it’s possible to make a real difference if you plan your own resolution carefully.

Also, consider setting goals that you can integrate into your daily life. It could be as simple as dedicating a few minutes each day to mindfulness, starting a new hobby, or committing to a healthier sleep routine. Small changes can build up to make a significant impact on your overall wellbeing.

Popular resolutions

So, what are some of the most popular resolutions? Here’s a look at a few of them:

  • Reducing alcohol consumption

A common resolution that many people consider at this time of year is reducing the amount of alcohol they drink. Almost 9 million people said they’d try Dry January in 2023, taking a month off drinking.

With increasing awareness of the impact of alcohol on health, people are exploring alternatives. This could involve opting for lower alcohol by volume (ABV) drinks or embracing alcohol-free options. Trying different teas, such as matcha tea, can also be a refreshing alternative.

Hydration is crucial, so incorporating more water or squash into your routine can also be a positive step toward a healthier lifestyle.

  • Mastering budgeting skills

Budgeting is a significant concern for many individuals, especially at the moment, and it can be stressful if not monitored correctly. Making a resolution to improve your financial habits can lead to a more stable and stress-free year.

Start by creating a realistic budget, cutting unnecessary expenses, and setting financial goals. These goals could include setting up a savings account or swapping to a cheaper supermarket.

There are apps and tools available to help you track your spending and savings, making it easier to stay on top of your financial game.

  • Prioritising exercise

Exercise is perennially on the list of resolutions when the new year begins. Many of us want something to give us a little encouragement to help us continue exercising and ultimately improve our health.

Consider setting specific and measurable fitness goals, whether it’s walking a certain number of steps each day, committing to a regular workout routine, or participating in a fitness challenge. Finding an exercise routine or class that you enjoy will make it more likely for you to stick with it throughout the year.
