Review of VioLife Vegan Cheese

I’ve been working on reducing my carbon footprint for a while now. For me, this involves making sustainable choices where I can. As a bit of a food fanatic, one of my focuses has been seeking out more plant-based options.

If you’re thinking about this too, you may be interested in this post on how your choices help the planet.

I hadn’t really explored vegan cheese until I came across VioLife. They offer a really nice range, with lots of options to suit different tastes.

Review of VioLife Vegan Cheese

Violife is free from dairy, preservatives, casein, ⁰lactose, gluten, nuts and soya. It is based on coconut oil and has the added benefit of being fortified with Vitamin B12. This plays an important role in the metabolism of our body’s cells.

The Le Rond, which has a camembert flavour was my first to taste test as it is so intriguing. I like strong tastes so it was exciting to find a non-dairy option that offers this.

I baked it in the oven as per the instructions and it went really soft and gooey. Next, loaded some salsa on the top and used it almost like a dip with some tortillas.

The taste is really interesting, creamy but with a sharp overtone. It replicates a mild camembert well and would be perfect even for non-vegans who like the texture but want something with a more gentle taste.

It worked well with the salsa. I think a chutney or chilli jam would also be a great match.

I also tried out the grated cheese on some nachos. It melts well although it does take a bit longer than dairy cheese. This isn’t a problem, it’s just something to be aware of. It has a subtle flavour with a nice chewy texture, perfect for topping Mexican dishes and more.

It certainly replicates the gooey nature of dairy cheese when melted. For me, this is important as I like toppings to spread out when they cook.

The range includes blocks, slices, grated and more. The smokey cheddar flavour slices are next on my list to try. There is such an excellent choice, it perfectly suits the needs of vegans and those who can’t eat dairy from a dietary perspective.

The brand also offers some great inspiration for vegan recipes. Whether you fancy a salad or a burger, sandwich or something sweet, there is a huge collection of vegan recipes to choose from for every occasion.

I also like that VioLife is completely MSG free. As a migraine sufferer, I don’t tolerate MSG well. It can often be found in foods through their ingredients rather than the food itself. Violife do not use any MSGs in their flavourings or ingredients, which is great news.

I’m looking forward to experimenting more with VioLife and creating some new vegan dishes.
