Anyone who has children will know how challenging the morning routine can be at times. The key to a stress-free school run is organisation and some clear-cut rules that everyone in the family can follow. I have teamed up with a prep school in London to gather some tips that will help parents establish a good school routine.
First of all, you really do need to prepare the night before. Unless you do this (or get up extra early) your mornings will never be smooth sailing. For instance, if your kids have packed lunch, get them made before you go to bed. Ask your youngsters to pack their school bags the night before too and if they have any homework or letters that need to be signed, that also must be done before bed. You could even set up for breakfast the night before to save some time.
Try and be the first one up in the morning so that you can get yourself ready before you deal with the kids. It’s also a great idea to give yourself a few extra minutes than you think you’ll need, just in case something unexpected pops up. Have a much needed cup of coffee before the chaos starts and make sure everything you need for work is ready by the door.
Make sure nothing is distracting your kids in the morning, as this will delay the getting ready process and make you all late. This means there should be no video games or TV; unless it occasionally works as an incentive to get everyone ready quicker!
Give these tips a go and see how you get on. And remember, sometimes you might just be late, it happens to all of us. Tomorrow is a new day 🙂
