A review of Circla

First off, let’s get one thing straight – self-care is not selfish! I’m a mum, I have an employed job, a freelance marketing role, and a house to run. So occasionally I like a few treats that are just for me. And I’m sure lots of people feel like this. And I want to say good for you! I was therefore very pleased to be offered a review of Circla.

The delightful toiletries from Circla are an absolute treat. This ethical company set up by the lovely Claudia has an important mission. To reduce the use of plastic in the beauty industry.

The issue with plastic packaging

Claudia shares on her website that 99% of plastic packaging in beauty products is only used once. This is such a waste isn’t it? And shockingly only 9% of plastic put into recycling will ever be processed. Most of it will end up in landfill and our oceans.

So this is self-care with a conscience too. Hurrah! I have the Ily Self-Care box from Circla to try out. It was a lovely treat to get through the post. And I can see how it would make a delightful gift too.

As well as being sustainable, the products are all vegan and predominantly organic. They are made in the UK. And cruelty free. So they tick all the boxes for sustainability.

A review of Circla and the Ily Self-Care box

There are 8 items in the Ily box. For £9.99 plus delivery I think this is well-priced. There were two stand out products for me. The Upcircle Face Scrub is amazing. Made with repurposed coffee grounds, it is formulated for sensitive skin. It also blends in chamomile, rosehip, geranium and patchouli. The scrub is really quite fierce but not irritating on the skin at all. And it leaves your skin feeling so soft.

The Superfood Shine Natural Shampoo was also a surprise favourite, because it is for normal to dry hair. Yet I have oily hair and it did a great job for me. It’s natural and organic, formulated with cleansers from sugar and coconut. Which means it smells yummy too!

Circla shop

As well as the gift boxes, you can also buy individual items in the Circla online shop. And coming soon to Islington (sadly a bit far away for me, here in Birmingham) is Refillington. This will be the first door to door re-fill service for personal care products in this London borough.

Circla is doing such a great job of making sustainable living easy, and desirable too. Visit www.circla.co.uk to find out more.
